Global Health Forum 2014

 

Greetings and welcome!

 

The main theme of this Forum is 'Health: prevention and programming in conflict and disaster.' A range of issues and topics are set to be discussed relating to:

 

  1. Prevention strategies and vaccines

  2. Recent outbreaks and health scares

  3. Quality of health in fragile and failed states 

  4. Basic health programming in disaster or conflict; emergency preparedness

  5. Resource scarcity 

  6. And contemporary issues closely related to global health.

 

Venue: Department of Hygeine and Epidemiology

 

Date and Time: 29th October 2014 from 16:00 - 18:00 (Student arrival at 14:00 for precourse enrolment)

 

Reception and registration for students on 28th October 14:00 to 15:00 :   student meeting with topic discussions to get credit etc, to take place from on the day before the speakers commence.

 

Target audience: Global health providers and thinkers, medical students from the Czech Republic and abroad, the University’s medical and non-medical faculties and academics from throughout the Czech Republic

 

Expected number of participants: 50 – 65 students, 20 to 35 medical faculty and academic staff

 

Agenda: Introduction: 10 minutes; Three speakers: 15-20 minutes speaking time each; One keynote speaker: 15-30 minute speaking time followed by a Question and Answer (Q/A) session: 45-60 minutes

1. Keynote speaker:  Professor David G. McIntosh, (Imperial College London) - " Global access to vaccines"

 

2. Alena Steflova, M.D., Ph.D., MPH,  (WHO representative)  - "Ebola outbreak in West Africa" 

 

3. Melaura Meyers, MuDr. (Charles Univesity Alumna) - teleconference about West Africa and public health dilemmas

 

4. Greg Martin, MD, MPH, MBA (Editor-in-Chief of of Globalization and Health, and youtube channel This Week In Global Health) - Current Global Health issues
